21 March 2013 Cebu City - After winning the 65th National Students Basketball Championship held in Bukidnon province on March 11-15, 2013, University of Visayas (UV), owned by the family of Congressman Eddie Gullas, is being invited by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) to represent the Philippines in the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russian Federation from July 6 to 17, 2013. KAZAN - Russian President Vladimir Putin inspected the Aquatics Palace, the football stadium under construction, Gymnastics Centre and Kazan Tennis Academy during his working visit to the host city of the 27th Summer Universiade on Tuesday, March 19. The Head of State was accompanied by First Deputy Prime Minister and Games Organising Committee Chairman Igor Shuvalov, and Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan. (CESAFI) Commissioner, has already inform the UV of this invitation from BAP administration. UV which recently topped the FESSAP-sanctioned 65th National Students Basketball Championship (NSBC) in Bukidnon that was organized by Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) president Senator Antonio Trillanes IV in cooperation with BAP Region 10 officials and supported by San Miguel Corporation, AgriNurture Inc (ANI), Bestank, H2O Technologies, Healthy Options and Cobra Energy Drink. Manila - The Philippines, through the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP), will be sending an 83-person delegation of athletes, coaches and team officials to the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia from July 6-17. Held every two years, the Summer Universiade features the most prominent university athletes from the world. In the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China , the Philippines was among a record-setting 152 countries to compete in the prestigious event. The Philippines was among the 65 countries that brought home a medal – a silver courtesy of Far Eastern University’s Samuel Thomas Harper Morrison in takewondo. The FESSAP is sending athletes in 11 sports in Kazan , Russia. These are Athletics, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Basketball (Men), Chess, Fencing, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Weightlifting.
