July 6, 2007 “Coach Teh, our mentor” By Graham C. Lim Former National Coach Modesto Teh, who served as the head coach of the national women's team in the early 70’s to the late 80’s, passed away due to cardiac arrest last Tuesday. He was 74. His remains now lies at the Sanctuarium, room 212 Hyacinth Chapel in Araneta Avenue. Modeste Teh was then appointed by Former FIBA President and Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) Gonzalo Puyat to mentor the women team for a decade and saw successful coaching career in Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) now FIBA-Asia and had several stints in the Southeast Asian Games. He also coached the Chiang Kai Shek High School men's team and have won several championship titles in the Filipino-Chinese Tiong Lian Tournament from 1965 to 1980. He also saw action in the Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) league and has produced many potential national players coming fromChiang Kai Shek College like WNCAA Most Valuable Player Gloria Co, Mary Cabochan, Yolanda Co and many more. Coach Teh is survived by his wife Co So Yan Teh and 7 children and grandchildren, the eldest son Kelly and wife Annie Teh, Gary and Lucy Teh, Jerry and Edith, Willy and Stella, Sonny and Marilou and daughters Selena and husband Rudy Lau, and Cristina and husband Jimmy Cheng. Interment will be on Monday on July 9, 2007 at 8:00 in the morning which cremation held at Sanctuarium
